AMBULANCE chiefs have admitted they have difficulties providing a service in rural areas as they faced up to criticism over poor response times.

Representatives of Great Western Ambulance Service (GWAS) told a public meeting they could not meet national targets in Ludgershall and Tidworth without a huge increase in funding.

They had been invited to a Tidworth Area Board meeting on Monday in the wake of a death of 88-year-old Doreen Wignall from Ludgershall in December following a lengthy wait for an ambulance after she slipped on ice.
