Local MP backs forced marriage criminality plans

LOCAL MP Claire Perry, whose Devizes Constituency include Tidworth and Ludgershall, has welcomed the Government’s decision to make forced marriage a criminal offence.
She has also backed the additional investment of over half a million pounds to prevent forced marriages and provide better support to victims.
The MP said: “It is frankly shocking that in 2012 we are still dealing with the barbaric practice of forced marriage in this country.
"We need to send a strong message that forced marriage is wrong and will not be tolerated which is why I wholeheartedly endorse the Home Secretary’s decision to make it a criminal offence."
