A NEW link in the national cycle network was revealed on Saturday when a section north of Stockbridge was opened by Mayor of Test Valley Borough Dorothy Baverstock.
The new section is part of 30-mile route from Stoney Marsh near Romsey to Kintbury in Berkshire.
Locally there has long been an aspiration to provide the new section – it was included in the Test Valley Access Plan and Cycle Strategy and Network in 2009 and the Stockbridge Primary School Travel Plan also identified the need for this link near the school.
Funding for the project was approved by national sustainable transport group Sustrans through Connect2 Big Lottery money plus some additional support from local councils.
Much of the 30-mile route runs along the bed of the old Spratt and Winkle railway line.
