Foodbank's call for donations
12:00am Monday 30th July 2012 in News
AN ANDOVER organisation that gives food to the needy is stocking up with supplies for summer.
And Andover Foodbank needs help from residents through food and grocery donations.
Last month the foodbank collected 367kg and £27 from generous shoppers at Tesco in River Way while this month a collection at Andover’s Asda took 376kg of food and £25. Last Saturday, 282kg and £89 was donated from shoppers at Waitrose, in Andover.
The summer holidays are usually a quieter time for donations but food is still very much needed.
During this time the foodbank sees a spike in food required for children who usually receive free school meals during term time but whose families struggle to provide adequately at home.
Annie Mihell, of the foodbank, said: “The Andover Foodbank is very grateful for the support shown by the supermarkets and all their customers.
“Without donations from the public the foodbank would not be able to support those in crisis.”
