Villages ring in the bells Villages ring in the bells

SEVERAL villages rang bells to mark the start of the Olympics.

At Shipton Bellinger the WI got together outside St Peter’s Church last Friday and at 8.12am joined bell ringers across the country to take part in the three minute ring.

There was a variety of bells in the group, including a Cypriot goat bell and Shipton School’s old hand bell. The church bell was rung by the husbands of two WI members.

Other bells rang in St Mary Bourne at St Peters and also at Hurstbourne Priors. There the church bells of St Andrews rang out while residents rang bells at the crossroads – the site of the Olympic torch relay handover in 1948.
