Myles Richardson receives his junior men's award
A PROMISING young athlete was the guest of honour as he opened his former school’s summer fair.
Myles Richardson, who won the junior men’s award at the Basingstoke and Deane Sports Awards 2012, said both Old Basing Infant School and St Mary’s Junior School have helped him to achieve his sporting success.
The 15-year-old told those at the fair that his junior school teacher spotted his athletic potential and supported him to take it further, adding: “I believe I would not have achieved so much without that support and encouragement.”
As the 200 metre National and English Schools Champion, Myles has also competed in the Olympic Stadium for South East England, where he won a bronze medal in the 200 metres. He said: “It was an honour to run at the stadium, and the Olympic Park is amazing.”
At the fair, families had the chance to take part in various sporting activities, ride on a mini train and listen to music from Basingstoke Silver Band, in the grounds of the junior school, in Belle Vue Road, Old Basing.
