A PRIVATE party for up to 250 people, running until 4am on two nights this weekend, could result in a “significant risk of public nuisance” according to a council officer.
His comments come in a report on the proposed event, which will take place at a detached address in a rural location on the same weekend as CarFest South at nearby Laverstoke Park Farm.
A temporary event notice (TEN) for the event was submitted to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council . But Rhys Gilbert, an environmental health officer, has raised “serious concerns” because the party is within 300 metres of several other residential properties and will end “very late”.
He said: “This is not a great distance for noise from amplified music to travel and cause serious problems.”
The notice states that the party will run from 10am to 4am on August 25 and 26, and from 10am to 4pm on August 27. Mr Gilbert said: “It is highly unusual for an event of this duration to be a private party and is more akin to a ticketed event. There are no details attached to this application about what exactly the event will entail or how the entertainment is to be provided.”
He added CarFest South would be running approximately 800metres from this site, but ending much earlier with controls in place to ensure that noise does not give rise to public nuisance. He said: “This does not appear to be the case here”.
The matter will be considered at the borough council’s licensing sub-committee meeting tomorrow if borough officers cannot reach an agreement with the applicant, who is unnamed in the documents.
At this hearing, the application can be rejected to prevent the party from going ahead.
The family that submitted the applicaton declined to comment when approached by The Gazette .
