Young girl assaulted

A FIVE-year-old girl was assaulted in Andover.

Police are appealing for information after the young girl was approached by a man described as in his teens, wearing a blue t-shirt and riding a blue bike.

It happened sometime between 5.30pm and 7pm on Sunday, 2 September while the girl – who was dressed in a bright pink jumper, a blue t-shirt, black leggings, white socks and black shoes – was in the area of Dexter Square and Cowdrey Square.

The man took her to an area near the bus stop, close to the junction with Swallowfields, via Bedser Square and Bradman Square, where he then assaulted her.

Following the assault it is believed the male cycled off into the Swallowfields estate and the girl made her way home.

Det Sgt Glenn Curtis said: “I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to come forward. “Were you in the area on the evening of Sunday, September 2? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously? Did you see the girl or the male in the area?

“We are treating this as an isolated incident and I would urge anyone with any information to come forward and speak to us at the earliest opportunity.”

Police have been carrying out house to house enquiries and letter drops in the area since the incident took place to gather information. A 21-year-old man from Andover has been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently in police custody. Anyone with any information should contact Andover CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
