A PROGRAMME which will see all homes in Basingstoke fitted with water meters has marked a year since it started.
The project is part of South East Water’s long-term plan to manage future water supplies for customers and the environment and will see 200,000 meters installed across the South East water supply once finished.
The programme began in August 2011 in Oakley and has since progressed through the town, with meters installed in central Basingstoke. It will now continue in Chineham and Old Basing, where meters will be installed this month.
Charles Healey, metering manager for South East Water, said: “Metering is a long-term measure to help reduce consumption as research has shown that customers on a water meter use 10 per cent less than those who are not metered and can help customers manage their bills.”
