MP hands in a 110,000 signature petition to 10 Downing Street
3:23pm Thursday 6th September 2012 in News
TClaire Perry, MP for the Devizes Constituency, and a group of cross-party MPs handed in a petition with over 115,000 signatories to Number 10 Downing Street. The petition has been organised by the online safety campaigning group Safetynet and calls for the Government to mandate that Internet Service Providers introduce a default Opt-In filter system for adult content on the Internet.
It was presented today to coincide with the ending of the government consultation on internet parental controls.
Claire Perry said: “Today, the voices of over 110,000 “ordinary people” are being heard loudly and clearly at the heart of Government and they are asking for a simple solution to the problem of keeping our children safe online – an Opt In system for adult material.
"This is one of the recommendations made by our Independent Parliamentary Inquiry into Online Child Protection and we were delighted that the government listened to us and set up an official consultation on this important issue."
