THERE may have been a shortage of people but there was still plenty of cheer at the Basingstoke Beer Festival.

Organisers of the fifth annual festival were disappointed with the low number of people who turned up to the event at The Moose Centre, in Churchill Way.

But Ted Squires, secretary of Moose International, which organised the festival, said the beer that was not downed would be sold at other upcoming events.

The event was organised in conjunction with the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), with nine different beers and three ciders on sale.

Starting last Friday evening and finishing on Sunday, visitors were able to sample local beers as well as listen to live blues music from The Richard Clarke Band.

Money raised from the event will be split between CAMRA and The Prostate Cancer Charity.

Mr Squires said Moose International organises various family events that raise money for different charities.

He said some of the remaining beer would be sold at future events, adding: “It went reasonably well but we would have liked a lot more people to have come.”

I never saw any advertising/publicit
y for this event or I may well have attended. If that's typical it would explain the lack of numbers.
