City Council tries to kick-start apprenticeships in Winchester.
Winchester City Council is trying to kick-start apprenticeship schemes with a new grants programme.
Apprentices could benefit from grants of up to £1,000 to cover basic costs such as work clothes or the cost of travel.
The city council’s deputy leader, Cllr Robert Humby, said: “We have indentified that some basic requirements of the apprentice are not being met either through their wages, benefits or existing grant schemes. In a large rural District such as Winchester , transport costs are a prime example of a need which our new grant scheme could address.”
Applicants must live within the Winchester district and the grant can be used for any cost not met by the apprentice’s wages, benefits or training provider. To find out more about taking on an apprentice, employers are encouraged to attend the Wired Wessex networking event on September 27 at Winchester Guildhall.
