Cuba mission for four fundraisers
2:00pm Sunday 9th September 2012 in News By Helen Morton
FOUR female fundraisers on a mission will be joining a group of around 100 women taking part in an epic 400km cycle ride across the island of Cuba.
Julie Foskett, of Old Basing, Barbara Foley, from Tadley, Wendy Howland, from Mortimer, and Steph Cox, from Tilehurst, will be raisng money for three women’s cancer charities.
Barbara, 37, said: “Each of us has been affected by these cancers, either losing a loved one or supporting them through their illness.”
The funds they raise will be divided equally between Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, and the women will each donate £100 to a project helping women fight cancer in Cuba.
To take part in the October 2013 challenge, the friends must each raise £3,000, which they are raising through car boot sales, summer fetes, cake sales, raffles and other events.
Their main fundraiser will be a charity gala at the Calcot Hotel, in Reading, on October 20. Tickets for the event cost £35 and the evening includes a three-course dinner, disco and live music.
Tribute artist Leanne Green will be performing as Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Jessie J. For tickets, email womenvcancer@btinternet.com or call 07824 678157.
