Having reached the age of 100, Muriel Ingleson has amassed the experience to know what's important in life.
When asked what has been the best time during her century on this planet, Muriel said simply: “Having children.”
Muriel, who has two children, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, has lived on Hyde Abbey Road for the past 40 years. Born in America, her family returned to Winchester when she was eight, where she has remained ever since. For a woman of her age, she is remarkably active. “It's impressive to have that level of independence at her age. She does not have any carers at all and I know people much younger than her who must live in homes. She's only just started wearing glasses!” said her daughter-in-law, Janet Ingleson.
Muriel was delighted to have received a card signed by the Queen and on August 31, surrounded by family and friends, she celebrated her 100th birthday - but admitted, understandably, that her party at the Golden Lion on Alresford Road had tired her out. She said: “I did enjoy it. It was very good but it was too much for me.”
