Memorial poll results (From This is Hampshire)

Anyone who opposes this has no respect for our brave soldiers who fought for our freedom during the Great War.

What were the 43% who opposed it thinking?

The point here, Mr Truth, is that they are able to hold those opinions because the men on the war memorial died to protect our freedom. If you take away their right to oppose the return of the memorial to the High Street, then you disrespect the memory of the men who died as much as the council did when it shifted to memorial out of the way to the churchyard. As abhorrent as their views may be to most right thinking folk, they are entitled to them. What those men did not die for was so that one man could singlehandedly decide where the memorial should be, without any reference to the views of others in the town. If fingers need pointing here, it is in the direction of the leader of TVBC, rather than those that are rightly expressing their democratic views, so hard won. This poll, which is just the latest in a long line of indicators that the people of Andover want their war memorial returned to the town centre, will be ignored by that gentleman just like all the previous attempts to start a dialog on the memorial’s future with TVBC. I don’t believe that this matter will ever be resolved to the satisfaction of the residents of Andover until that man is no longer a part of the leadership of our community. That, my friend, is the sign of a dictatorship, not a democracy!

If that leader is who I believe it is, one has the question how a person from Winchester can possibly have the full interests of Andover and it's people at heart? Any decision made by said person would not affect them, their life or their family as they do not live in this area.
