Two injured as plane crashes near Popham

A light aircraft crashed in woodland south of Popham airfield, injuring two people.

Police and firefighters from Basingstoke and Winchester were called at 3pm on Saturday (September 15) following reports of the incident near to the A303, between Popham and Micheldever.

Both the pilot and passenger were airlifted to Southampton General Hospital. A police spokesperson said the injuries “were not believed to be serious”.

What caused the two-seater plane to crash is unknown.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue said: “Appliances from Basingstoke and Winchester attended, made the scene safe and assisted ambulance with the crew of the airplane.”
