A WINCHESTER VIP has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Renee Lock, of Oliver's Battery, is a member of the Visually Impaired People's (VIP) Reading Group at the Discovery Centre. And on Monday, September 10, there was a rather special book meeting where celebrations included chocolate cake, balloons and gifts such as a subscription to the Royal National Institute of Blind (RNIB) People National Library postal service.

Until now, Renee had been relying on an old cassette player, but the subscription includes the loan of a Daisy Disk player, giving Renee access to RNIB's 19,000 audio books.

Renee's actual birthday is September 20 and there will be a formal celebration for her at St Peters Church, Jewry Street on Saturday, September 22.
