Time to apply for school place

WILTSHIRE parents are being encouraged to apply for the school they would like their children to attend in September 2013.

The online application form at Wiltshire Council’s website wiltshire.

gov.uk/schooladmissions is available now and the closing times for applications are 12 noon on Wednesday 31 October 2012 for secondary schools, and 12 noon on Tuesday 15 January 2013 for primary schools.

All Wiltshire residents must apply for a state school or academy through Wiltshire Council.

Education officer, Debbie Clare, said: “Last year more than 54 per cent of applications were received online.

“The online application form makes it easier for parents to submit their application on time and they get an immediate acknowledgement that their application has been received.

“However, parents can always complete a paper application if they would prefer. Whatever method is used, it is important forms reach us in time.

“Those submitted by the deadline stand the best chance of getting a place at their preferred school.”

For people who do not have access to the internet, paper application forms are available from all Wiltshire schools and County Hall.

Anyone wanting a paper copy should call 01225 713010 after that date. Wiltshire Council produces booklets to help parents find a school place and these are available on the website or on request by calling 01225 713010.

Every year the council handles applications for about 11,000 children for the normal intake rounds.

All applications received by the appropriate deadline are considered together and ranked using the oversubscription criteria for each school.
