Hampshire education chief praises schoolchildren for exam results

Cllr Roy Perry has congratulated Hampshire schoolchildren on their summer exam results
THE county council's education boss has praised Hampshire schoolchildren for their exam success.
Cllr Roy Perry, executive member for children services, said children are working harder and the standard of teaching is improving across the county.
Eighty-seven percent of pupils scored the required standard, level 4, in their Key Stage 2 maths and English exams taken in the final year of primary school.
It is a four per cent improvement in maths and three per cent in English from last year's results and means Hampshire children are performing above the national average.
Cllr Perry said: “These results, coupled with the fact that more than 80% of pupils are attaining level 4 English and maths at 65% of our primary schools, really do reflect the outstanding, high quality of teaching and learning going on in Hampshire. “I would like to congratulate pupils, staff and also parents for the support they give to children and schools - all have contributed to these good results.”
The number of pupils achieving the above average level 5 grade was 41 per cent for English and 45 per cent for maths, also better than the national average.
