Five pupils rewarded for their hard work

THESE lucky students from a Basingstoke secondary school were rewarded for their hard work with a trip to the Paralympics.
The five pupils from Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College , in Wessex Close, were nominated for being inspirational, respectful and for showing equality and excellence during their school sports day in July.
They joined PE teacher Andy Kimber at the Olympic Park where they watched the T11 long jump, T12 800m women’s semi-finals and the men’s and women’s shot putt final.
Student Tom Greenland said: “One of the highlights of the Games was Li Duan, the blind Chinese long jumper who, to get the crowd going, ripped off his trousers moments before each jump!
He was a real crowd pleaser and came second in the end of the competition.
“The whole day was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which I’m sure I will never forget.”
The pupils also took a tour of the park to see the other venues including the basketball arena, velodrome and aquatics centre. Keonne Crockwell, who was also part of the group, said: “The whole day was a great experience and has inspired me to try my hardest in sport.”
Mr Kimber added: “To witness the sights and sounds of the Olympic Park, and to have access to the stadium itself, was a truly amazing experience. The most astounding aspect of the day had to be watching the competitors themselves.
“In spite of such physical adversity, the ability and sense of achievement of individuals who smile as they give their very best as athletes inspired us, and I’m sure an entire generation.”
