Children thrilled as circus comes to Kings Worthy

IT’S not everyday the circus comes to school.

But that is exactly what pupils at Kings Worthy Primary School enjoyed last week as Happy’s Circus visited.

The sold-out show saw around 600 guests fill the quickly-assembled big top to see acts including clowns and acrobats.

Children also got the chance to play their part, with two groups winning a talent competition to perform comedy with the clowns and street dance.

Alison Wells, of the school’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association who organised the event, said: “The circus was certainly a roaring success. We sold out all the tickets and actually had to turn more people away.”

Katie Clark, another member of the PTFA, added: “So far we think we have raised £1,500 for the school through the event which will go towards our ongoing IT upgrade.

“The children just loved it all and it was a great family and community event, especially when you throw raising a lot of money for the school into the bargain.”

Pupils also helped design the programme for the event, with 10-year-old Emily McDonald designing the front cover, and four-year-old Ella Tighe designing the back.

Headteacher Julie Mullane said it was great to host a family event at the school.

She said: “In this digital age, it was wonderful to hear children, parents and grandparents heartily laughing together at live entertainment.

“Our thanks go to the PTFA committee and particularly Jo Griffiths for organising such a memorable occasion which was enjoyed so much by all of our community.”
