SPAR store in line for award
12:00am Tuesday 2nd October 2012 in News
A PEWSEY convenience store owned and run by a well known Tidworth family has been nominated for an award in a national awards ceremony to take place in London later next month.
The SPAR store in North Street is one of three stores nominated in the National Federation of Retail Newsagents awards for the Independent Community Retailer of the Year category.
Store manager Susan Connolly will be attending the awards evening at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London on 23 October.
She said: “We were surprised and thrilled to be nominated for this prestigious award, which is a widely respected industry accolade and we’re very much looking forward to the dinner and presentation evening.”
The Pewsey store is the main sponsor of the town’s carnival as well as a sponsor of the local football team, and is renowned for community seasonal events like its Hallowe’en fancy dress and colouring competition and its popular in-store Christmas grotto.
The NFRN Awards are in their ninth year and seek to recognise people in the news and convenience retailing sector who have made a real contribution to its success and future and who make a difference to the communities they serve.
The 1,600 sq ft Pewsey store was opened as a SPAR two years ago after Susan’s parents Andrew and Teresa Connolly bought and developed the premises in a £200,000 co-investment scheme with Appleby Westward, SPAR’s regional distribution company for the south west.
The couple run three other SPAR stores in Tidworth and Ludgershall .
