New classrooms built at Overton Primary School

NEW classrooms have been built at a village primary school to cope with a minor population boom.
Hampshire County Council used £613,000 drawn from developer contributions and its own coffers, to create the new classrooms at Overton Primary School in Court Drove.
The two classrooms are separate from the main school and were built during the summer holidays.
It will mean the school can increase its pupil numbers by 100 from 320 to 420 in three years’ time.
The building was officially opened by the school’s headboy Max Oran and headgirl Tayla Muir, both 10, who cut a ribbon in front of other pupils, staff and parents.
Fiona Wyeth, headteacher, said: “We were identified as a growing school because of all the new building in the village. Through working with the Local Authority, two building projects were developed– one was the two new Year R classrooms and there is also a continuing project to develop a new library, corridor and kitchen and that will be complete by December.”
She added: “I’m really pleased. We have got two big classrooms for the children and they are really airy with windows from floor to ceiling. Our next big project is to develop the outside area.”
The school worked with the architect to design the building.
Mrs Wyeth said although the classrooms are detached from the main school, the children are “still part of the school but they have a nice big space and it helps them to build their confidence”.
