Director Drew showcases budget flick at top film festival

A TALENTED local film director held the world premiere of his latest work at the prestigious Raindance Film Festival.
Drew Cullingham, of Little London, showcased Black Smoke Rising at the Apollo cinema in Piccadilly Circus, London on Sunday and Wednesday last week.
He was returning to the independent film festival after his triumph last year when his film, Monk3ys, won the award for best micro-budget feature.
Drew, 37, wrote the film as a tribute to his brother Christopher, who died in 2010.
He said: “The budget for this film was tiny – thousands of pounds, not tens of thousands.
“I always wanted to become a director but it is a very hard industry to get into.”
Drew, whose family have lived in the area for many years, shot some of the film locally, including in the lay-by across the road from the Queens College Arms, in Pamber End.
The screenings of the Black Smoke Rising were shown to sold-out crowds at the cinema.
