Police appeal for witnesses following town centre assault

POLICE have launched an investigation into a serious assault in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called at 3.30am on October 7 to behind McDonald’s in Basingstoke town centre. The scene remained cordoned off until the early afternoon.

Police would not release further details of the incident, but a Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said detectives have appealed for witnesses.

He said: “Basingstoke CID are appealing for any witnesses in the area at that time, and are interested in speaking to a male and a female parked in Castons Yard in a dark coloured car at the time of the incident and may be able to assist detectives in their inquiries.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact DC Paul Smith at Basingstoke police station on 101.
