Blooming well done
BUSINESSES, schools and individuals have been rewarded for their best blooms.
The annual Test Valley in Bloom awards evening was held to recognise the efforts of residents, who had dug, planted and pruned their gardens and pots to perfection.
About 70 prize winners gathered at Longstock Village Hall where they were welcomed by in Bloom chairman Roy Williams.
Certificates and garden vouchers were presented by the Mayor of Test Valley Cllr Dorothy Baverstock, who is also a member of the in Bloom committee.
Mr Williams said of the entrants: “They have reached a very high quality considering the problems experienced in the spring and summer with the weather.”
The competition brought particular success for three entrants, who picked up double awards. These were Andover’s Portway Junior School – which won gold for its grounds and received recognition of its progress over the year in the form of a voucher for a class visit to the Sir Harold Hillier Garden and Arboretum presented by education officer Carla Thomas- Buffin. Graham Marchant, of The Old Bell and Crown at Hatherden, walked away with gold in the pubs section and a silver gilt for his hanging baskets, and Rosalie Winder, of Lillywhite Crescent, Andover, won gold with her front garden and silver gilt for her hanging baskets.
Other golds went to Jack Ellicock, of Longparish, in the front garden competition and to Ashlawn Gardens in the community areas section.
