Long delays for rail passengers
2:12pm Friday 12th October 2012 in News By Helen Morton
RAIL passengers travelling between Basingstoke and London are facing long delays this afternoon after a major power failure.
A spokesman for the Network Rail and South West Trains Alliance said that although the situation is being resolved, disruption will continue for a while as trains are out of position.
He said: “A major power failure has resulted in a widespread loss of signalling and traction meaning services in and out London Waterloo are currently being heavily disrupted.
"Services on the mainline route from London Waterloo are running but are disrupted and subject to delay and cancellation.
“It is likely that a reduced number of services will run on this route throughout the afternoon and further details of the planned service alterations will be made available as the day progresses.
“Engineers are working to repair the fault and in the meantime South West Trains passengers may use First Great Western and Southern on any reasonable routes.”
