Sandford Springs hotel construction to start

A LONG-AWAITED hotel is finally set to be built at Sandford Springs Golf Club.

Construction of the 40-room, three star hotel is due to begin on Monday, October 22, with the planned opening in September next year.

The golf club in Kingsclere has been applying for planning permission to build a hotel since 1989, and each of its four applications have been accepted.

However, none of the previous applications, including one for a 100-bedroom hotel, were implemented.

It is hoped that the construction of the hotel will be a boost to the local job market, with around 20 new jobs expected to be created. As well as 40 twin rooms, the hotel will include a breakfast buffet area and a relaxation zone.

It will be built less than 200 yards away from the main clubhouse, which is also set for a major refurbishment with new changing rooms and a kitchen.

Andrew Wild, general manager of Sandford Springs, said: “We are excited and cannot wait for the work to begin.

“It will be a valuable addition to our club as well as the local community.

“Throughout the building process we strive to incorporate environmentally responsible practices and have chosen an architectural design in keeping with the landscape in this most beautiful part of England.”

Work on the Leaderboard Golf Group project is being carried out by Leadbitter Construction.
