School celebrates half century
TEST Valley School held its 50th year celebrations grand finale following a year of events to mark the special occasion.
There was a grand quiz, a school reunion through the decades, a time capsule launch and a competition to find the family with the most members who attended the school over the past 50 years.
The competition attracted a greal deal of interest.
Andy Simmonds entered the competition knowing instantly how many of his brothers and sisters had passed through the school, then as he started to put pen to paper more and more came to mind.
The final count saw 22 Simmonds family members become the winning entry.
Head teacher Louisa Hiscock was delighted to invite the family to a special assembly to share some of their memories and witness the time capsule launch.
The Year 7 pupils of the 50th intake to Test Valley School created a time capsule, enclosing letters and items to be opened in March 2061.
This was coordinated by head of English Celia De Nitto, and they all shared in the celebration assembly with the Simmonds family.
The time capsule is now in place on the wall, ready to witness the next 50 years at school.
Miss Hiscock said: “It was wonderful to welcome the Simmonds family back to Test Valley School and share this special occasion with them.
“The competition highlighted just how many families have attended our school through more than one generation and maintained such strong links with us.”
