Attempted robbery in Andover
3:36pm Tuesday 30th October 2012 in Andover
A MAN tried to rob a woman walking with her two children in Andover.
At some time between 1.50pm and 2.15pm on Wednesday, 24 October, a 27-year-old woman was walking with her children along a pathway which runs behind King Arthurs Way and Greenwich Way.
As she was walking she was approached by a man on a bicycle who attempted to grab her handbag, which was attached to her pushchair. The man did not succeed and he cycled off towards King Arthurs Way empty handed.
Pc Paul Weston said: "The victim was out walking with her two children when she had to endure the distress of someone trying to steal her handbag.
“The pushchair on which the handbag was attached to was turned around by the force of the offender trying to grab the bag, with the 16-month-old child still strapped into the pushchair.
“It is lucky the pushchair didn't topple over and injure any of the children.
“I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to come forward and help us find the man responsible.”
The man police want to speak to is described as white, aged in his 30s and wearing a dark coloured jumper or coat and dark coloured bottoms.
He appeared to have a thin jaw and his cheeks looked sunken. He appeared to have no teeth and was wearing a hat which is described as being similar to one that Edna from Emmerdale wears. The hat was high at the back of his head and pulled down over his face so it covered his eyes and most of his nose.
Anyone with any information should contact Pc Weston at Andover CID on 101, or call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
