CAPTAIN Bones and the Year 3 crew managed to protect the treasure as they battled the pirates from the Ghostly Galleon in literacy at Anton Junior School recently.

The children, as well as the teachers, dressed up as pirates and boarded the pirate ship as part of their ‘Adventurous Stories’ unit of work.

Year 3 teacher, Mr Mark Wartnaby, said: “We use the drama to inspire the children in their writing.

“The children act out the story during the morning and then they write their own adventure stories based on what we have acted out.

“We find that by using drama, the children remember the story much better and have lots of ideas.”

One Year 3 child, Arther Glabus, said he enjoyed the experience.

“We got to dress up as pirates and sailed to Blackadder Island,” he said.

“We saw a Baldrick, a fierce warrior, but he turned out to be a wimp.

“Luckily we helped him to be brave and he helped us to defeat the Ghostly Galleon and we celebrated with a pirate party.
