Man robbed in Andover
10:56am Monday 11th February 2013 in Andover
A MAN suffered an eye injury after he was robbed in Andover.
At some time between 3.40am and 4.20am on Sunday, 3 February, the 21-year-old victim was walking along Wellesley Road towards the junction with Chestnut Avenue, in Andover.
As he was walking he was approached from behind by at least two men who hit him in the face and forced him to the ground. They then removed the victim’s wallet and cash from his trousers.
The offenders, one of which was described as wearing a dark hooded top with the hood up, then made off on foot.
The victim sustained an injury to his eye.
Detective Constable Paul Barry said: “I am appealing for anyone with any information about this incident to come forward and speak to us.
“If you saw or heard anything suspicious in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, February 3 in the Wellesley Road area, please get in touch and help us with our inquiries.”
Anyone with information should contact Det Con Barry at Andover CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Does this mean it is no longer safe to walk the streets of Andover late in the evening? Ultimately I'm sorry to say it does.
Although some might claim this is an isolated incident, the facts speak for themselves. It's certainly not an isolated incident, it's now quite commonplace.
The big question is now, when will extra policing be provided in this area to ensure the safety of Andovians?
Who will champion this need for extra police and when?
