Amport Primary School report Amport Primary School report

AMPORT CofE Primary School is a small, successful, rural school located in the picturesque village of Amport.

The school is close to celebrating its 200-year anniversary in 2015 and is currently, the top primary school in Hampshire for academic achievement.

Its last Ofsted inspection (February 2012) stated that “Children settle quickly into school and their needs are met well” and that, “Pupils have a very positive attitude to learning, behave well in class and around the school”.

The school has long established close links with the local community including the church, Amport House and the British Armed Forces Chaplaincy Centre.

Bernadette Fleet has been the head teacher for more than six years and leads a team of high calibre staff whose aims are for all children to be successful in their learning, whatever their starting point.

It attracts children from both the local villages and beyond and currently has 80 children on roll.

Amport Primary School works very closely with parents to ensure that the children get off to a flying start in their primary years and, with such small year groups, staff get to know the children and their families really well.

All children make very good progress at Amport and they let the school know that they enjoy their time there.

This is demonstrated in the way they go about their learning and play- the children are courteous, polite, hardworking and supportive of each other.

Governors, staff, children, members of the community and parents all play an active role in the success of the school who are, rightly, very proud of all the school has done and achieved.

The curriculum is extended through participation in house competitions, rural schools sports tournaments, sports based after-school clubs and, rather uniquely, an annual Whole School Hike to which all parents and governors are invited.

The children enjoy high quality music and drama opport u n i t i e s both as part of the curr i c u l u m and as an after school club.
