AN 82-year-old man from Andover who has supported the British Heart Foundation (BHF) for 42 years has raised £550 for the charity by swimming 40 lengths at Andover Leisure Centre.
Laurie Broadhurst, of Westfield Court, has now raised nearly £5,000 in the last five years alone for the charity.
A born survivor he suffered three separate heart attacks between 1996 and 2000, but remains positive in nature and plans to continue to support the BHF.
"I go swimming nearly every day," he said. "Sometimes I wake up and think that I won't go in, but then I feel so guilty.
"If I don't go swimming the leisure centre will ring me to see if I'm alright."
Chairman of the Andover branch of the BHF, Brian Page MBE, said: "I have the greatest respect for Laurie and his great support for our charity.
"At 82 years old he goes to Andover Leisure Centre on most mornings to do his daily keep fit swims.
"He is certainly an example for us all to follow."
