Legends game is a big hit
12:00am Sunday 2nd September 2012 in Andover
WITH a well contested match and entertained crowds, Michael Vaughan’s NatWest Legends match at Andover Cricket Club was a big hit on Monday.
The aim of raising money for grass roots cricket clubs was achieved as people flocked to the London Road ground to see their England heroes of the past take on the town’s best.
Rain was forecast for the day but it held off until the closing overs of the contest, to the delight of players, organisers and fans alike.
NatWest Legends captain Michael Vaughan said: “It was a great pitch, probably the best we have played on in the series, and Andover were extremely keen and enthusiastic.
“It’s all about raising the profile of the club and of course funds for equipment, ground covering, the pavilion, whatever the club needs really.”
Andover skipper Jonty Hadfield said: “It was a truly fantastic day and the team performed well and to go close against a team like the Legends was a superb effort.
“For a while the forecast was looking pretty bad but we were really lucky in the end and the rain just about held off.”
Before the match, colts at the local club were treated to coaching from a handful of the Legends team as well as a bowl-off and a Kwik Cricket demonstration during the interval.
