ANDOVER joined in the celebrations for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad when the One World Jamboree event filled Beech Hurst Park with music and colour on bank holiday Saturday.

Organised by The Lights venue director Heather Whittam for Andover Vision Live, the free event had a programme of live music, dance experiences, creative workshops, stilt walkers and food offerings from around the world.

Music on the main stage was provided throughout the day by acts such as the ThreePenny Bit Celidah Band, the Caribbean Lights Steel Pan trio and Jezebel an American Rockabilly duo.

Heather said: “The music was brilliant throughout the day and the dancers from Zumba and Bellydance 4 Life braved the elements and kept the crowds entertained.

“The children loved the creative workshops, especially the Rangoli under the trees, which grew and grew all day.

“Despite a smaller than average turnout due to the weather all those who came along had a thoroughly enjoyable day.”

Set among the trees, the various free creative workshops offered something suitable for all members of the family with activities drawn from North America, China, Poland, Japan, Spain, the Caribbean and Hawaii.
