Disruption at Andover flats

A 31-YEAR-old man from Andover is currently in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, and making threats to cause criminal damage yesterday evening. (Sunday 9)

At 6.11pm on police officers received a report of an incident inside a flat on Tiberius Road, Andover.

It was reported that a man was damaging property inside the flat. He refused to let anyone inside and made threats, including threats to start a fire.

A number of neighbours were evacuated from their homes as a precaution, while negotiations took place between the man and police.

Two hours after police were called, the man agreed to come out of the flat. Sergeant Steve Parker said: "A number of police units were in attendance, as well as units from Hampshire Ambulance Service and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"Residents of the block of flats where the incident took place were asked to leave their homes as a precaution and were able to return after three-and-a-half hours.

“I would like to thank these people for their cooperation and assistance with this matter."
