Traffic proposals on show
12:00am Wednesday 19th September 2012 in Andover
AN exhibition of proposed traffic management measures for Andover’s Floral Way will take place in the Burghclere Down Community Hall on Wednesday and Thursday between 2.30pm and 8.30pm.
The exhibition will offer visitors the opportunity to have their say on four options to improve traffic movements and the safety of pedestrians.
The four proposals being exhibited are: parking restrictions with footway and car park improvements, a raised table, where a short length of road is raised to a level closer to the top of the kerb and a 20mph limit, a restriction of access and bus-only link and combination of the above.
The purpose of the final scheme will be to encourage those dropping children by car at the Balksbury, St John the Baptist, and John Hanson schools to park a short distance from the entrance and walk the rest of the way.
This aims to avoid the current problem of congestion and risk to children outside the schools.
Councillor Martin Hatley, portfolio holder for planning and transport said: “This exhibition provides the opportunity for people to have their say on proposals to improve traffic movements and in particular the safety of children being dropped by car to attend schools in Floral Way.”
The closing date for comments in 12 October.
Signage is due to be placed in the Floral Way area this week advising of the exhibition and consultation.
