Cricket hit for charities
THE summer sound of willow on leather was heard on Saturday as a charity cricket match took place at St Mary Bourne in aid of Andover Young Carers and Brave Hearts.
Teams from Hares Transport and St Mary Bourne took part in the match at the cricket ground and MP Sir George Young was asked to bowl the first ball of the match and get the game under way.
The event raised £4,000 which will be split equally between the two Andoverbased charities.
Manager of Andover Young Carers Lorena Milton, said: “It was a fantastic day and match played in good spirits with an all-day barbecue and a fundraising raffle in the evening.
“It is a lot of money – we were helped by sponsorship from Barclays.”
The match saw the home team victorious.
Young Carers offer respite and support to children and young people who often have little or no childhood due to their caring responsibilities for a parent, parents or sibling with long-term illness, terminal illness or disability.
Brave Hearts support children under 16 who need help due to distress, financial hardship, family crisis, physical or mental handicap or infirmity.
They provide grant aid for a variety of needs such as special cycles, walking aids, body splints, wheelchairs, safety seats, special holidays, education needs and communication needs.
