Praise for store's help

LOCAL MP Sir George Young was on hand to praise Tesco, its staff and workers for continuing to raise so much money for good causes in store.

Over the past two decades the company has been instrumental in raising £185m for schools and clubs across the UK through its schemes, and the latest batch to be helped from Andover were at the River Way store on Tuesday to be presented with the donations.

Representatives of the four schools, Roman Way, Vigo Infant, Vigo Junior and Knights Enham, were all present for the presentation by Sir George and store manager Matt Beale.

Sir George said: “Tesco has a long history of support for schools and I know this help will be greatly appreciated by the schools locally.

“The new equipment will I’m sure be put to fantastic use enabling schools to get even better results in the years to come.”

Matt Beale said the company was hoping to raise £10m this year and its chosen charity of 2012 is Cancer Research UK.

Whilst I applaud Tesco and their staff for the fund raising efforts - which is very much appreciated, I am less impressed with Tesco's choice of their guest.

Why chose an MP who doesn't do anything for this constituency other than line his own pockets?
