A34 closed after spilt load
8:41am Tuesday 9th October 2012 in Andover
A RECOVERY vehicle which spilt its load of a transporter lorry has caused disruption to roads around Andover.
The incident happened shortly after 11pm last night (Monday).
A loaded articulated transporter, which was being towed by a Volvo heavy recovery vehicle, broke free while it was travelling along the A34, near Whitchurch, towards Bullington Cross.
The lorry crashed into the central reservation and went into the opposite lane, causing much damage to the road and the vehicles it was carrying.
The A34 was closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for most of today (Tuesday). Diversions are in place, but this is having a knock on effect on traffic travelling around Andover.
The 29-year-old driver of the recovery vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving with an unsecured load and causing danger to other road users.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact Sgt Lyndon Barrett at Whitchurch Roads Policing Unit, quoting Operation Bodmin, on 101 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
