Andover assault

A MAN was assaulted as he walked through Andover.

The incident occurred at about 1am on Sunday, 7 October in the underpass between Shepherds Spring Lane and the Northern Retail Park.

A 19-year-old man from Andover was walking home after a night out when he saw two men stood in the underpass. One of the men asked him for a lighter.

As the victim walked off towards the retail park he was grabbed by one of the men who assaulted him with a sharp object causing small cuts to his arm.

Both suspects then ran off towards Shepherds Spring Lane. Pc Andrew Wardell, from Andover police station, said: “The location of this assault is a well used footpath and I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed two men acting suspiciously in the area or running from the area in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“I’d also like to remind people that by taking simple precautions you can help make your journey home safer. Consider booking a taxi or using public transport rather than walking home on your own. If you are going to walk home, stick with friends and walk in well lit areas.”

The first suspect is described as a white man, of stocky build, approximately 5ft 10 tall with an Andover accent and wearing a dark hoody with the hood up and dark trousers.

The second man is described as white, approximately 6ft 3 tall, of skinny build, black hair which was about 3 inches long and came over his ears, slight stubble on his face, wearing a dark t-shirt and trousers and with an Andover accent.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Pc Wardell at Andover police station by phoning 101 or calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
