A MAN was taken to hospital after being knifed in stomach during a fight in Southampton.

The attack happened about 4.40am on Saturday in Bullar Street, St Mary's.

Police were called to the scene following reports that a man had suffered a stab wound.

The incident is thought to have involved a group of black men and a woman.

The injured man was taken to Southampton General Hospital suffering from a minor injury to his stomach.

Detectives today appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Detective Sergeant Will Whale said: "We believe this man suffered a stab wound inflicted by a bladed weapon following an altercation between a large group of black males that had taken place any time after 2am on Saturday. We would urge any witnesses who may have seen the group in the area to contact Bitterne CID on 0845 045 4545."
