Two charged with drug possesion

POLICE cracking down on illegal drug use in a Hampshire town have today charged two men with possession.

Warrants issued as part of Operation Widdecombe - aimed at disrupting the supply of drugs and other illegal substances in and around Eastleigh - led to three properties in the town being raided earlier this week.

Today, David Cameron, 41, and Lee Russell, 39, both of Southampton Road, Eastleigh, have been charged with possession of class C drugs.

Both have been bailed to appear before New Forest Magistrates Court, Lyndhurst next Friday.

Eastleigh Inspector Kelly Whiting said the operation is part of wider work to reduce crime in the town.

"The participation in the use of illegal substances often has a significant influence on lower levels of crime, as addiction frequently leads to users committing crime to fund their addiction," she said.

"By identifying those in the supply chain and the end users, we hope to dramatically reduce the number of drugs circulating around the town."

If anyone has information about the use of illegal drugs or substances in Eastleigh, they should call the Priority Crime Unit at Eastleigh on 0845 045 45 45, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
