PUPILS bonded and got a taste of Army life when a team of soldiers visited a Basingstoke school.
A small team from the Prince of Wales’ Royal Regiment, the infantry regiment for the South East, spent a day at Brighton Hill Community College, in Brighton Way, Brighton Hill.
In the morning, they did a presentation on Army life to around 85 pupils, including prefects, in Year 10, and allowed them to handle machine guns and live ammunition.
The pupils then took part in various team-building exercises in the school grounds, including one involving building a cart to carry a box of fake “toxic waste”.
Brett Coley, assistant head teacher at Brighton Hill Community College, said: “Part of the reason for the event was to raise the pupils’ awareness of being able to rely on other people in what will be their final year of school, and to give them the opportunity to speak to other students whom they may not have spoken to before.
“They had a great time and threw themselves into the day.”
Mr Coley added that several of the students expressed an interest in joining the Army.
