A SUMMER programme of activities to entertain young people has launched in Basingstoke and Deane.

Summer Streetz aims to prevent boredom and antisocial behaviour by offering a wide range of free activities for young people throughout the school summer holidays.

The evening sessions will take place in even more areas this year, including Kingsclere, Rooksdown and Chineham.

A variety of activities will be on offer from July 30 to August 31, including DJ workshops, football, basketball, free running, street dance and open access youth club sessions.

This year’s programme was launched at Sherfield Park Community Centre, in Sherfield-on-Loddon, when councillor Cathy Osselton, Cabinet member for partnerships, joined representatives from community groups running free activities.

She said: “Summer Streetz offers young people fun activities along with the chance to try out something new. For local communities, this can also result in preventing boredom from turning into anti-social behaviour.

“The expansion of the scheme is due to more young people and communities getting involved and working together.
