IT’s not every village festival that can boast a legendary 1960’s rock star.

But Gary Brooker, founder member of Procol Harum, will be performing his number one hit, A Whiter Shade of Pale, at The Gratton Festival in Sutton Scotney on Saturday June 29.

He will be joining local band, Step on the Gas, on stage at the end of a music concert. Mr Brooker is friends with the band and has previously played with them at fund-raising events.

BBC South Today presenter Sally Taylor will officially open the fun-packed day on the Gratton Recreation ground at 2pm. Activities will include pirate trips on the River Dever, tug-of-war, airsoft shooting range and skateboard demonstration.

There will also be “crazy games,” bouncy castles, face-painting and an 8km fun run from Micheldever to Sutton Scotney, starting at 2pm.

The fun will begin the night (Friday June 28) before with a pram race through the village, starting at The Coach and Horses in Sutton Scotney, at 7pm.

The music concert by local professional and amateur performers kicks off at 5.30pm. Tickets for all events cost £3 for adults and £1 for children and OAPs. All the funds raised will go toward improving the recreation ground, including the children’s playground.

Tickets are available from Dever Stores, Wonston Arms and the Coach and Horses.
