Business booming for new Winchester club

MEMBERSHIP is booming at a group based in Winchester that aims to bring sporting and keep fit junkies together.

Horizon Pursuits Club organises a range of outdoor activities ranging from horse riding to kayaking.

It aims to bring together people who like to have some adrenaline coursing through their veins.

As a by-product, it is also a chance for members to make new friends, or even find the love of their life.

In fact, while the group has only been running 12 months, two of its members have already tied the knot after meeting at the club.

Mother-of-two, Sandie Wills, who lives at Stoke Charity near Winchester, founded the Horizon Pursuits Club to fill a gap in the market.

While several similar outward-bound groups operate across the UK, she believes that hers in the only one of its kind in central Hampshire.

In its first year, it has attracted more than 70 members, and business is booming.

She said: “The idea was to offer people the chance to improve their social life whilst getting fit and active.

“It’s the perfect way to meet like-minded people. It’s also a great way to try new activities such as coasteering, surfing, horse riding and white water rafting.”

Coasteering, for the record, is usually a mixture of swimming in the sea and running over ragged rocks near the shore.

The club also organises some more relaxing events, with regular weekends away and a dinner party each month.

The next three-course dinner is taking place on Saturday, August 1, and new members are welcome to come along.

For more details about the group, which costs £12.95 per month to join plus payments for some trips, e-mail the membership secretary at Emily@hpclub.co.uk.
