Winchester planners are set to decide on Sainsbury’s proposals for Bishop’s Waltham on April 7.

It is one of the most contentious applications in recent years and the city council planning committee is setting aside an afternoon for the meeting.

The committee will meet in the Bapsy Hall, the largest room in Winchester Guildhall, starting at 2pm.

Members of the public can attend and hear the debate and those wishing to speak, should phone 01962 848339 by 4pm on Tuesday April 5.

The meeting is likely to last some time and is unlikely to be finished before the early evening.

Supporters say the store is needed and will also include a new GP surgery. Opponents say it will fatally squeeze independent High Street traders.
