A HAMPSHIRE choir is set to make a UK comeback after a 12 year hiatus.
The Jane Austen Singers will return on Saturday, October 6, for a performance at St Peter's Church, Stockbridge . They have been invited to perform by Stockbridge Music as part of a series of concerts and the choir will cover a selection of sacred music spanning six centuries.
Ex-Winchester Cathedral chorister Tim Lowden believes he is organising a new and improved group. He said: “With my wonderful list of new singers, compiled from enormous encouragement, I look forward to performing sacred music of all ages at a new, higher standard."
The Jane Austen Singers were founded in 1975 but disbanded, only to reform in 2000 under Mr Lowden, their original director. Last November they performed in Spain, but this is their first performance on British soil for many years.
In their previous incarnation, the group built a reputation for their performances of sacred music, madrigals and part songs, in addition to chamber performances. The choir worked with some famous orchestras along the way, including The Hanover Band and Southern Sinfonia.
